Bob and Jennifer first met while sharing a tiny office and working on a community involvement project. 25 years of marriage, three kids (with one grand baby on the way), and lots of life experience later they are once again sharing an office! This time as directors, running the Fenton Center of Hope. Bob and Jennifer founded the Center of Hope in September of 2016 after seeing repeated cycles of need all over their neighboring communities and opened the Center of Hope to make a positive impact on the lives of their neighbors in need. Bob and Jennifer have found that by having a large team of volunteers with a broad spectrum of skills and abilities they (along with their team) are able to provide an excellent base of experience and knowledge for those in need of assistance. As directors of the Center of Hope the Strygulecs have established a network of partnerships and referral agencies and, by taking the time to interview each case in person they are given time to uncover the root cause(s) of each need and make a personal connection. Having a passion for empowering clients through mentor-ship and life skills training has resulted in long term positive outcomes with many individuals and families. When not busy at the Center Bob and Jennifer enjoy spending time with their family and having family game nights.
Nancy was born and raised in Milwaukee, WI and moved to Linden, MI in 1993 where she found herself and her husband at The Freedom Center church after being “hounded by a neighbor” to attend. Nancy met directors, Bob and Jennifer while they were all taking the membership class and started working at the Center of Hope’s food pantry. Nancy’s husband, Walter helped supervise the build of the first food pantry in 2011 and as his health deteriorated Nancy started helping out more and more at the Center. Now that Walter has passed, you can find Nancy at the Center of Hope most days answering phone calls, returning emails and praying with clients in the food pantry. When asked why she continues to volunteer at The Fenton Center of Hope she said, “volunteering at the food pantry and helping out in the office is my why in life. I love getting to know people and enjoy being able to pray with the people who come through the Center of Hope. I get to show the love of God through my actions!”
Lindsay was born and raised in Fenton, MI and after doing some mission work in New Hampshire, and Brazil she returned home and married her husband, Rob. Together they have a three-year-old, RJ and a son on the way! Lindsay has been attending the same church (The Freedom Center) as Bob and Jennifer for roughly ten years and was introduced to Jennifer by a mutual friend when Lindsay led a Bible Study at the Center of Hope. After a conversation about how to become more involved Jennifer discovered that Lindsay was pretty tech savvy and would be a good addition to the volunteer staff at the Center. Lindsay now runs the various Facebook pages connected to the Center of Hope. In her free time, Lindsay can be found enjoying time with her husband and family, chasing after her three-year-old and loving on her four-month-old son.
