What we do

We know that asking for food assistance is a humbling and difficult decision
so we strive to make each of our guests feel welcomed. Since our inception our goal has been to ensure that the services we provide are tailored to meet the specific needs of our families in need. The Free Choice Market is set up as a mini grocery store so that people can choose the food they need and prefer rather than simply getting a one size fits all box of food. We also strive to address the underlying source of the crisis and look to provide life skills classes to assist helping individuals succeed in areas they currently struggle with.

The Parenting Program and Baby Closet

Having a baby is a true blessing from God, but for families in need it can be a stressful time and a true financial challenge.
The Center of Hope Parenting Program and baby closet turn a desperate time of need back into a time of rejoicing so that you, as the parent/guardian can focus on the bundle of joy that has joined your family. As your child grows we continue to partner with you in order to provide the ongoing support and training necessary to ensure your family is able to achieve your God given purpose in life.

The Baby Closet is a one stop shop for families in need that have children’s clothes with sizes newborn through size 5T. We provide diapers, wipes, formula, baby food and more. Guests can come in and select clothing and items for their babies and young children once a month by appointment. Fill out an application and schedule an appointment. Once the application has been approved, you will be placed on our schedule and will have a walk through of the Baby Closet. We look forward to working with you and your family!

Emergency Housing

Emergency Housing is a tremendous need in our area.
The Center of hope has plans for emergency housing that would accommodate as many as 50 individuals. In time all three houses on the Center of Hope property, starting with a small efficiency apartment in the First House will be remodeled as short term rooms or apartments. We get calls for emergency housing at least once per week and they're becoming more regular. Completion of this project is by far our biggest financial need.

You can contact us by calling our office at 810-620-8300.

Mentoring

Mentoring those we minister to happens in a variety of ways at the Center of Hope.
Visitors using any of our services often make use of one-on-one mentoring in one way or another. Currently this happens in a variety of places but there will soon be private meeting spaces in the big building as well as in the First House. Mentoring is a key part of helping those we serve move forward.

Pregnancy Resource Center

The Pregnancy Resource Center provides help and support to women experiencing unexpected pregnancy.
We believe every baby is a blessing, but we understand that certain life situations may make a new pregnancy seem overwhelming. It’s our goal to provide a safe and welcoming environment where new parents will find support and hope.

We offer individuals and couples support and resources through one on one counseling covering topics such as pregnancy decisions and tools for coping with difficult life situations. We use a program called Bright Course that covers 200+ topics regarding parenting, relationships, life skills and other special situations. This program is utilized along with our mentoring program.

If your church, business or organization is interested in planning a community event or participating in one and would like more information about the Love Our City movement, we'd love to hear from you and maybe even help you along your journey.
